The Show
Maya the Mermaid is an interactive educational theatre show for young children. We focus on sea pollution, the disruption of sea creatures homes, what causes it and how we can help!
During our Maya the Mermaid shows we try to have as much audience interaction as we can possibly pack in! We like to get our audiences thinking caps on. To breath life in to this we have many games and activities such as; A 'Fishy Fact' finding game, a recycling game, music, puppets, dancing, singing, drawing, ukulele playing all in the space of the show. Through out the show Maya talks to the audience and asks them for ideas!
We have performed at London's borough of Barnet Libraries 'Year of learning' event for 'Go Green!' month. We did this in collaboration with the children company; Big Time Academy. We have also performed at Brighton Royal Pavilion and theatre spaces and schools in Cumbria, Wiltshire and London.
Our main attraction as a company is our theatre work; we create shows from the perspective of animals effected by pollution such as fish or in our case a Mermaid! All of our shows are accessible, this means two things: our shows can be taken in to non theatre spaces - Churches, Hospitals, Libraries, Schools, Community Centres ETC.
We also mean by this that our shows can be easily accessed by people of learning or physical disabilities. Our shows are created to be wheel chair friendly and though we do not offer sign language or full visual description we try to be especially visually stimulating and descriptive in every way we can!
Almost all of our show materials are recycled from scrap materials no longer needed and recycling. We have kept as eco friendly as possible when making the set ourselves and producing everything needed.
A ' Fishy Fact! '
Did you know; American Lobsters have longer life spans than both cats and dogs! many living more than 20 years!
Our shows last roughly 45 minutes
