Maya the Mermaid's Learning Week!
We have created a week's worth of lessons, activities and education packs for your teachers to use to inspire and inform your little learned ones all about the world of pollution.
We have devised a tiered education pack, this means it is suitable for ages 4 - 11; the first tier of each topic being the easiest or suitable for the youngest groups and the last tier being the most in-depth or suitable to the oldest groups. You can skip tiers and activities that your students are too advanced for, pick and mix them, delegate deferent tiers to different groups depending on ability or just follow the simple guide for your class, it's really up to you! The sections are also marked with ages and intensity levels to determine a light guide.
Our learning journey covers:
Pollution & Recycling: Sea, Air, Sound and Land Pollution, Wildlife, Micro Plastics, Clean Water, Excessive Packaging
Global Warming: The Ozone Layer, Wildlife, Melting Ice Caps, Raising Sea Levels, Green House Gasses
Renewable Energy: Wind Turbines & Solar Energy, Fossil Fuels, Recycling
We would also like to include sections such as: 'Deforestation: Wildlife: Rainforests, Welfare of People' later on in our development. If you would specifically like this we can make sure to add notes about the world of Deforestation to your pack, though for the time being it is only a sub theme.
Maya the Mermaid Show!
Over the course of your learning week, we bring in a Maya the Mermaid show for the class! This is designed to be a motivational highlight, super fun and engaging for the children. We aim for the experience to develop empathy for Maya the her sea friends, giving even more of a motivation to learn and practice recycling.
The show experience is about 45 minutes includes; An interactive show, sea facts game, stickers, drawing, recycling game, Maya's ukulele playing and singing, dancing and a chance to meet Maya!
What You Get!
You will receive a week (five days) pack of teaching materials
This will include: Lesson plans (as described above), Activities, Game plans, Work books for your students for the five day experience, a Maya the Mermaid Show (as described above)
Two teaching pack's you will receive: x1 online teaching pack and x1 physical teaching pack by post.
The online pack will include: any materials such as references and videos, websites, images, songs and media needed to assist your lessons.
The physical pack will include: work books for the whole class and teaching copies, lesson plans (as described above) stickers, tickets (prop) to the Maya the Mermaid show and physical items needed for lessons.
We also include anything niche that is needed to create the content in the pack. For example we won't provide supermarket food if the activity is 'observe the excess packaging' but we would provide something such as fishing wire if the lesson involves 'unusual items found in sea pollution'
We aim to make this as simple as possible. To help this, both materials will be sent directly to your school, by direct email and in a package. The online resources will be on a memory stick sent by post in the package with the rest of the learning resources and also sent as an email in an online document, as a back up to stop any technical faults!
Maya the Mermaid show will come directly to your school if wished, we bring our own set and staff, we have one actor and two facilitators. We will only need a space to perform and set up, adequate time to set up, and if wished chairs for teachers and cushions or mats for children to sit on though this is only relative to what your school has and would like.
